School in Session: Learnings from the University of Aarhus NICE Summer School on Constructed Wetlands

Last week, more than 15 participants, including students and professionals from the water treatment and R&D sectors, took part in the NICE Summer School and the “Treatment Wetlands Course for Water Pollution Control” in Denmark.

Throughout the week, participants had the opportunity to explore key aspects of the design, operation, and application of various Nature-based Solutions (NBS). The programme also included a special day dedicated to a deeper dive into the NICE project: its structure, a better understanding of its diverse activities and solutions, and the innovations developed within the consortium.

The sessions were led by international experts, including several of our NICE project partners:

  • Carlos Arias
  • Pascal Molle
  • Fabio Masi
  • Neil Sang
  • Emil Jespersen
  • Daiane Trevisan and
  • Magdalena Gajewska

In addition to the lectures, the programme featured technical visits to several NbS pilot systems implemented across Denmark.

On behalf of the entire NICE consortium, we would like to thank the Aarhus University team for their excellent organisation of the course, as well as everyone from our consortium who contributed to making this summer school a success. We also extend our heartfelt thanks to all the engaged participants.

It was a truly enriching experience, and we look forward to many more editions in the future.

These were intense but incredibly rewarding days, full of knowledge exchange, networking, and hands-on insights into how NbS can support more sustainable water management.
