Aarhus on the move : University of Aarhus brings NICE solutions to diverse audiences
5 February 2025
In recent weeks, Aarhus University’s team has been on the move playing a pivotal role in capacity building for NICE solutions. Through several presentations and workshops, the NICE Team in Aarhus has contributed to key discussions, scientific presentations, and knowledge-sharing events in Europe and South America.
Stakeholder Workshop on NbS
This past week, a stakeholder workshop brought together experts from Aarhus University, Ecoscience, Aarhus Vand, SCC, SCS, AIAS, VandCenter Syd A/S, and the Center for Recirculation to discuss the integration of NBS in water management. The workshop underscored several critical insights:
- NbS play a vital role in enhancing both ecological and human well-being, improving environmental resilience and public health.
- Successful implementation depends on understanding local environmental, social, and economic conditions, highlighting the necessity of active stakeholder engagement.
- Field-testing NbS under real-world conditions provides empirical evidence of their effectiveness, helping to address public skepticism and reduce uncertainties.
- Regulatory frameworks must evolve alongside scientific advancements, ensuring that policymakers have access to the latest research to support effective governance.
- These discussions reinforced the importance of collaboration in integrating NbS into Danish water management and beyond.
NICE Research travels abroad
On 30 January, at the Danish Water Forum, the Aarhus University team presented results from one of the NICE NbS experiments, focusing on the potential of nano bubbling systems. This innovative technology has the potential to revolutionise water treatment by enhancing oxygenation processes, improving water quality, and supporting sustainable water reuse.
Dr. Carlos Arias and his team has also been actively disseminating NICE NbS research internationally. Two weeks ago, he presented NICE’s findings at two scientific meetings in Chile: one at the Catholic University of Maule in Talca and another at the Wetland Center at Los Rios in Valdivia. These engagements foster international collaboration and knowledge exchange, furthering the adoption of NbS for water reuse in diverse environmental contexts.
Join the Aarhus Summer School
For those eager to deepen their understanding of NbS and circular water reuse, NICE expert Dr. Carlos Arias will be leading a summer school focused on these critical topics. This is a unique opportunity to engage with leading experts, gain hands-on experience, and contribute to the future of sustainable water management. Learn more and register here!
