EU Green Week Side Session: Innovative Nature-Based Solutions for water resilience

It becomes increasingly necessary to find and implement sustainable and efficient solutions for current and future environmental and social issues. In the current scenario, there is a growing space for Nature-Based Solutions. These solutions are technologies and processes inspired by nature that are cost-effective, provide environmental, social, and economic benefits simultaneously, and help build resilience. To promote these solutions for Enhanced Sustainable Water Management, the NICE project relies on research, knowledge generation, implementation, and dissemination of these solutions. The NICE project, along with one of its partners from the Gdansk University of Technology, will organize the "Innovative Nature-based Solutions for Water Resilience" workshop.

This workshop will take place in Gdansk, Poland, on June 6, 2024. The main goal of the workshop is to showcase and discuss the practical applications of innovative nature-based solutions for water pollution and control in Polish cities and European municipalities. The workshop will highlight their significance in achieving enhanced water resilience and provide practical guidance for local water governance.

A unique aspect of the workshop will be its conclusion with a visit to the NICE pilot nature-based solution, an enhanced rain garden dedicated to stormwater treatment and flooding mitigation. This immersive experience aims to provide participants with hands-on insights into the tangible benefits and applications of these solutions in real-world scenarios and recommendations for policy.
